Collins 26U-2 Tube Stereo Limiting (Leveling) Amplifier $2400 in Fresno, California For Sale

Price: $2,400
Type: Music instruments, For Sale - Private.

This is a Collins 26U-2 Stereo Tube Limiting Amplifier manufactured sometime in the 60s. Used in radio to even-out discrepancies between record volumes. Much like the famed LA2A,great for the recording studio. It can add tube warmth and leveling to your digital work. It's switchable between dual mono and Stereo. Single mono works fine, as well. . Works great for individual mono /stereo tracks and as part of a mastering chain. All components of this unit are stock and work great. We did move the attack and release controls that were originally on the back (hard to get to), to the front. Four balanced TRS phone cables, a two sheet spec sheet and the power cord are included. The unit weighs 35 pounds and will come close to 40 by the time it's safely packed for shipping. This is a rare find. Good luck bidding. Another comparison that I found at worthpoint.com: "Sometimes referred to as 'the poor man's Fairchild 670' this Collins Radio model 26U-2 Stereo Tube limiter uses the same GE xxxx tubes in a similar vai-mu design. The unit offers separate left and right input and output controls, along with a Stereo Link switch for accurate stereo tracking. Continuously variable attack and release controls for each channel are mounted on the rear of the chassis. Although it was primarily intended for use as a broadcast limiter in FM radio stations, the 26U-2 has found wide acclaim in recording studios for it's unique sound quality. Excellent as a buss limiter, for group vocalss, and my personal favorite, on room mics!
